Coming at you with another podcast recommendation today folks! Sorry if you aren’t a podcast listener 😅. Maybe one of these days I will convert you.
Today I wanted to share with you one of the sweetest people I’ve met online: Catrina of the Create Joy Podcast.
She is so humble, genuine, and loving in everything she shares — especially her podcast. Each episode comes with a weekly challenge, and the week that I am writing this, the challenge was particularly meaningful to me:
Slow down and enjoy your extraordinary, ordinary life.
The day I listened to this episode, I had just finished having a melt-down in front of my little girl.
I spent all morning trying to clean the house and knock out my to-do list. I often feel anxious about my to-do list. I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to relax until it’s done. Then I can take a breath.
The only problem is, my to-do list is never done!
Things I sometimes do on a repeated, at least twice-daily basis:
- cleaning the table
- sweeping the floor
- picking up the kids’ toys
Yet I’m starting to learn that the mental space I get from keeping everything clean all of the time brings with it its own kind of stressors. Namely this: I am always doing something.
But busy doesn’t have to be a badge of honor.
I like to feel validated as a mom. I like to feel like I contribute to my household. But do you know who needs me even more than my messy house? My kids!
When Catrina asked if we ever feel so busy that, in a room full of people, we feel like we are the only ones in motion, and we don’t make opportunities to stop and connect? I thought of my family. They need me to not be busy sometimes.
And so, I am taking this challenge to heart — to slow down and enjoy every extraordinary, ordinary moment.
If I leave one legacy behind, I want it to be that I loved big, in word, but especially in action.
As with anything, it’s a work in progress.
So, here’s to expending that effort on the things that matter most.
