Dear Diary: A Camping Trip, A Luxury, & A List of Affirmations

Dear Diary,

Last Saturday, we went on a very adventurous camping trip. The campground we intended to stay in was closed, so we found a makeshift spot (without bathrooms!) to sleep for the night. At first, I was skeptical, but we had a wonderful time. And the view!!!

Camping with my kids’ grandma reminds me of camping with my own grandma growing up. It’s a special treasure.

I also had the luxury of one of my favorite things yesterday… a massage! We had a little extra in the budget, so I scheduled a head-neck-and-shoulders appointment, and it was heavenly.

When I was little, my mom and brothers used to pay me a quarter for every minute of massage I gave. Now, I am counting down the days until my kids reach that age, because it is much cheaper than the real thing – haha!

Lastly, I listened to an audio course this week all about creating the life you want to live. The speaker suggested making a list of 20 “I am” statements to repeat to yourself every day.

They are meant to help you remember your true self, and respond, rather than react, in tense situations – or just in the context of a simple, daily choice!

Here are mine:

  1. I am calm.
  2. I am patient.
  3. I am supported.
  4. I am mindful.
  5. I am empowered.
  6. I am creative.
  7. I am divine.
  8. I am self-compassionate.
  9. I am wise.
  10. I am grateful.
  11. I am prayerful.
  12. I am persistent.
  13. I am loving.
  14. I am trustworthy.
  15. I am purposeful.
  16. I am resilient.
  17. I am forgiving.
  18. I am joyful.
  19. I am focused.
  20. I am faithful.

Here’s to speaking such words of light to ourselves every day.

❀ Jenny

P.S. – What “I am” statements would you choose for yourself?

    1. I bet. I think it must be a lot more relaxed here in my county than most places I’ve heard about. We have a lot of open space here, so that might be part of it. Sending prayers your way, big brother ❀
