100 Days of Journal Prompts: Day 22

Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.

You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!

Describe your ideal “happy place”.

You know, on TV, when the yogi says “Close your eyes. Breathe. Picture somewhere happy”?

Well, why not?

Sounds like a wonderful and needed break.

For me, I’ve been a water bug for as long as I can remember.

When I was 5, we moved to Western Samoa.

Our departure flight was so long we received a full meal. We stopped in Hawaii first, and I remember the airport lights at Honolulu. We stayed for a few weeks in a hotel. I loved watching the ocean waves crash against the lava rock at Hukilau beach.

When we arrived in Samoa, I used an outhouse for the first time. We slept in a fale with mosquito nets wrapped around our skin, and visited with family. Then, we moved to our house in Apia.

My brothers would save soda cans to pay for the bus ride to school. I remember their friends. I remember our uniforms, and singing together in a big assembly to kick off the day. Once, I got lice, and my mom picked it out of my thick hair with a comb, for hours.

But the water.

The water was amazing.

This is Papase’ea:

Here, it was fresh water actually. I remember sliding down the rock waterfall into the pool, and my dad making a big splash. My cousin held his breath for over five minutes… or so I thought. When I was older, my brothers explained that he was breathing through a reed.

I’ve always wanted to go back.

Whenever I hike now, I try to find somewhere with natural water.

Tell me about your happy place.

      1. This fits you so well! Thank you for sharing πŸ™‚ It’s all about the “who”, but the “where” can be fun, too. Getting to see another way of life and culture, learning and sharing at the same time.

  1. I’ve never been to a physical location that I would call my “ideal,” so I guess my ideal happy place would be in my imagination. A house on a beach with my two favorite cats and the love of my life sitting beside me on the deck overlooking the sunset.
