100 Days of Journal Prompts: Day 39

Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.

You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!

What does making sure my own needs are met have to do with the way I feel and show love?

Part of feeling and showing love is putting yourself on the list (as @aboutprogress so perfectly puts it).

I know how easy it is to make yourself the last priority. Other projects have deadlines, or you don’t want to let a loved one down.

But a pattern of neglecting our own needs leads to resentment of service and sacrifice (rather than a greater capacity for gratitude and love).

One thing I like to do as a mom is take a break from the sensory overload of the day. When things get too loud for too long, my irritability skyrockets, and I know it’s time to step away.

  • Sometimes, I go for a drive while my husband watches the kids.
  • Sometimes, I find the kids something to do and hide out in a locked room πŸ˜‚.
  • Sometimes, I take them for a walk in the stroller and say, “Mommy’s putting her earphones in for a little bit, I love you!”

I get creative, haha! The point is, I pay attention to what I need, and I come back stronger for it.

How are you showing up for you today? And why does it matter?

❀ Jenny
