Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.
You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!
What am I grateful for when it comes to my body?
One of my biggest struggles last year (and still) is loving and being grateful for my body exactly the way it is.
When I look in the mirror, I feel great about myself. I don’t take excessive pride in my physical appearance, but I love my hair, my skin tone, my curves, my glasses, and my baby marks.
That’s huge for me, and I’ve come a long way!
But – I’m going to be real honest here – I’ve had to size up my clothes 3 times this year ($$), I have acid reflux, chronic migraines, arch, heel, and lower back pain, and I worry sometimes about how attractive I am in my marriage. Does losing weight ever cross my mind? Yes.
I don’t say that because I believe it’s the golden solution. I don’t think the solution is one size fits all. But, I know from experience, the negative thoughts I shy away from saying out loud are the ones other people struggle with, too.
Knowing and loving who we are is an ongoing process. It’s a battle that somehow turns into this amazing feeling of freedom along the way.
In my own battle, one thing that’s always tried and true for me is finding something to be grateful for.
So, at a time when everyone is planning their next marathon, beach getaway, or backpacking trip, it’s okay if your list looks a little different. If you’re grateful for a pain-free day with your kids, or speaking kindly to yourself, or getting outside each day for some #naturetherapy – whether you’re walking, running, or sitting and enjoying the view…
Just remember, you are enough, struggle and all.
