100 Days of Journal Prompts: Day 74

Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.

You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!

What are my thoughts on screentime? What do I like to do instead?

Screentime seems to be a popular topic these days.

I have to admit we aren’t super stringent in our house. The kids and I have “showtime” each day. It’s usually late in the afternoon (2 or 3) after we’ve played (inside and out), read, eaten, and exercised for the day.. I let them watch until Daddy comes home (5 or 6) while I dinner prep, clean, relax, or work on the podcast.

Maybe that’s horrible. #confessionsession

But I’m proud to say I’ve converted them to Winnie the Pooh. One of my childhood favorites.

I did buy a couple of card games to play with Joe this week: Monopoly Deal and Skyjo. My mom and I love them – wish me luck that my hubby does, too 😂.

I also set my social media timers for 30 minutes between Facebook and Instagram this week. It’s been nice to be a little bit more present.

Do you feel strongly about screentime? What do you like to do instead?

Any ideas of other things I can do with the kids? They love to build legos, bake, play on the car rug, hold dance parties, and run around outside, but there are quite a few hours in the day when it starts at 7:30AM 🤣.

Thank you for being the best community!

❤ Jenny

  1. Too much screen time is definitely not great. I find myself resorting to watching TV when I’m bored though. I write, but that’s on a laptop, so it’s still a screen. Does that count? My cats are entertaining. I started painting, but I have to be in the right mood for that. Get the kids a hamster 🐹. Lol

    1. I have wondered if writing counts, too! I don’t feel bad about it at all unless I know I need to be spending time with my kids and I’m not. Usually because when I’m in the middle of something, I can’t pause! It drives me nuts, haha. And the hamster is a fantastic idea… for the kids 😉 I would love to see some of your paintings. How neat.

  2. I’m not a parent, but I think kids spend way too much time on screens already… and then they push more screen time in schools… and then they shut down the schools, requiring even more screen time… sigh…
