100 Days of Journal Prompts: Day 78

Each day, laptop and children permitting, I’ll share a prompt that’s been on my mind, and a few of my thoughts.

You are welcome to share your own perspective in the comments, or just journal it out!

How do we celebrate holidays in our home?

I have been slacking on these 😅, but I’ve got one for you today.

Yesterday, we celebrated a birthday!

It was the first time in a long time I bought a cake, rather than baked a cake.

I also realized that my kids are getting older and wiser and pretty soon, they are going to want themed parties with friends and piñatas and all the things… oh my!

Growing up, my mom made every holiday special – right down to Memorial Day. I always wanted to do the same for my kids.

Only now (as an adult) do I recognize how much work that involves.

So my question is – how do you celebrate holidays at your house?

Which ones should I go big for? Which ones can I let be?

Thanks in advance 😂

❤ Jenny

  1. We celebrate every birthday even though they’re not huge events. Usually we have cake and ice cream and presents and my mom always has a birthday dinner for whoever’s birthday it is.

We go really big on Christmas!

  2. Growing up, we never celebrated Memorial Day or Labor Day. Independence Day is just fireworks and food. Thanksgiving, naturally, was all about food. Easter was church, then a hunt for our Easter baskets, and now it’s an Egg hunt for the kids and a dinner. Christmas is reading the Christmas story from the Bible and opening gifts; dinner too, of course. As you can see, food is always involved. It’s a miracle we’re not all 500 lbs!
